I love it when they think they are my only student that I see. A girl was in my office for the mysterious stomachache, and asked me, "Do you remember when I was in here when I bumped my knee? It had a bruise, but now it's all better."
Of course I didn't remember her, so all I could say was, "I'm glad you're better now," but it's my favorite (or one of my favorites) thing when kids think they are the center of my world.

That is so cute, I love how children are not afraid of school nurses than are they are with the nurses at a hospital setting. I admire the patience you have with kids and the way modern school nurses like yourself take away the notion of "that big old scary nurse" we used to have way back then. If only all school nurses are as child friendly as you.

I have to give a little background first..I live in a small town in a rural farming community. I am the school nurse for all kids in K-12 (524 kids to be exact..544 if you count pre-school). One evening this fall I was driving past my elementary principal's house and there was a calf just laying in the road like it was bedded down for the night. That is very unusual. I called my principal and waited with the calf. She and her kids came along with her husband to put the calf back over the fence. A day or so later, I saw her 8th grade son in my office and asked him "how's the calf". He said, "Oh, it's okay. I just had to massage it for a bit. That's why I was sitting out" I said, "Oh, I'm glad it's better" and walked away smiling. I was referring to the calf bedded down in the road. He was referring to the week before when I had walked up to the trash can behind the football bench to throw away my popcorn bag while he was sitting out of the game because of a cramp. :) Kids crack me up...they certainly believe the world revolves around them.
